Hyseas partner logo

HySEas is a three-year EU-funded project that brings together partners from 6 countries to develop a new, sustainable method to produce green hydrogen directly from seawater. Unlike traditional approaches that can damage equipment and harm marine ecosystems, HySEas uses an advanced Bipolar Membrane (BPM) to carefully control how ions move during electrolysis. This makes the process cleaner, safer, and more efficient. HySEas aims to overcome the efficiency and material challenges of seawater electrolysis, offering a durable and cost-effective solution for green hydrogen production. The project objectives align with EU goals for climate neutrality and green transition.

Sweethy Partner logo

SWEETHY (Direct Seawater Electrolysis Technology for Distributed Hydrogen Production) is a 4-year project, co-funded by the European Union, that aims at the development of an innovative electrolysis stack, capable of producing 20 g h-1 of hydrogen directly from seawater. The project addresses the challenge of processing impure water by leveraging the innovative AEMWE (anion exchange membrane water electrolyser) technology and by developing new, more durable and cost-effective materials, capable of withstanding highly corrosive saline conditions. The developed electrolyser stack will ultimately secure > 2000 h of operation under a 1%/100 h degradation rate.

Asterisk Partner logo

ASTERISK’s objective is to develop an electrolyser, a system to split water into its components, to produce hydrogen from seawater. ASTERISK will use electricity from renewable sources, such as solar or wind, and avoid the use of toxic compounds like PFAS and scarce resources like platinum and iridium. The project is based, from start to finish, on the concept of circularity!

The AELIOS project is focused on designing a robust and sustainable Alkaline Electrolyser with improved efficiency, capable of operating flexibly in conjunction with renewable energy sources, while also lowering both CAPEX and OPEX. To reach this goal, the project will address multiple key areas: the development of advanced materials for the stack and balance of plant (BoP) components, the implementation of innovative operational strategies, the creation of new lifetime modelling tools, the definition of accelerated ageing and degradation testing protocols, and the investigation on the sustainability, circularity and recyclability of the innovative materials and components.

HySPRINT is dedicated to building sustainable, cost-effective, and recyclable Solid Oxide Electrolyser Cell (SOEC) components for a cleaner energy future. Developing innovative, sustainable SOEC components, this project combines advanced manufacturing techniques, AI-driven automation, and circular design to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and support the clean energy transition. By creating long-lasting, recyclable hydrogen technologies, HySPRINT aims to accelerate global decarbonization efforts. The project is funded by the European Union under the HORIZON-JU-CLEANH2-2025 call and supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and its members to deliver scalable, high-impact clean energy solutions.

CLEANHYPRO is an EU-funded Horizon Europe initiative operating as an Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) to accelerate the development, testing, and industrial scaling of clean electrolysis technologies across Europe. By uniting 9 state-of-the-art pilot lines and a multidisciplinary network of leading research organisations, CLEANHYPRO provides clean-tech developers with comprehensive technical, characterisation, and business support services to bridge the gap between innovation and market deployment.
